Timmy turned one
December 14, 2014
And it all started on the day he was born
He was born on November 19, 2013 10:44 in the morning at J.R. Borja Memorial Hospital. This Caesarean-section-born baby was diagnosed with meconium and neonatal sepsis. He's my son, Artemio Kaleb Rod A. Claridad or simply Timmy.
Breathing problem, fast heart rate, yellow skin and rashes were just some of his sufferings in neonatal intensive-care unit (NICU). He badly needed special care.
I was not able to breastfeed him right after his delivery. So my mom asked my co-patients for milk thru breast-pump. Transferred in a labeled, sterilized, small plastic ware, my mom gave it to the nurses in NICU to feed him (thru dropper).
On the third day, my brother, Gabriel, together with my friends, Ambol and Rey John, took me to NICU (using wheelchairs). My brother went with me inside. Mixed emotions hit me. I felt nervous and at the same time so excited and a little bit afraid. Afraid for I didn't knew yet how to properly hold an infant for breastfeeding. "Tummy-to-tummy," was the nurse instruction.
