And it all started on the day he was born

He was born on November 19, 2013 10:44 in the morning at J.R. Borja Memorial Hospital. This Caesarean-section-born baby was diagnosed with meconium and neonatal sepsis. He's my son, Artemio Kaleb Rod A. Claridad or simply Timmy.

Breathing problem, fast heart rate, yellow skin and rashes were just some of his sufferings in neonatal intensive-care unit (NICU). He badly needed special care.

I was not able to breastfeed him right after his delivery. So my mom asked my co-patients for milk thru breast-pump. Transferred in a labeled, sterilized, small plastic ware, my mom gave it to the nurses in NICU to feed him (thru dropper).

On the third day, my brother, Gabriel, together with my friends, Ambol and Rey John, took me to NICU (using wheelchairs). My brother went with me inside. Mixed emotions hit me. I felt nervous and at the same time so excited and a little bit afraid. Afraid for I didn't knew yet how to  properly hold an infant for breastfeeding. "Tummy-to-tummy," was the nurse instruction.

Feeling thankful and blessed, I hugged and gave my little angel his first kiss. Since then the connection of our worlds tighten more. He was dependent on my milk and he's my happiness.

Visiting him every after two hours inside NICU for feeding helped me regain my strength, knowing that my son needs me. I slowly recovered from the pain of operation; making me able to walk from the third floor of the hospital to the room where my baby sleeps.

November 25, 2013 I was discharged. Since we could no longer use the hospital room,my mom and I stayed in an area where parents of the same situation like mine stayed.

The awaited day has come, December 3, 2013, Tuesday, baby was discharged. Uncle Ronny (my father's first cousin) drove us home. That day also by in-laws form Davao visited their grandson.

It's been over a year since that momentous event of our lives happened. Thanks to Him, the guy above, for the bountiful blessings he showed upon us.

Now, Timmy is no longer a baby, he's now a little boy.
